30 Ways To Wear: Valleygirl Cobalt Marl Knit Jumper

In the first days of spring in Brisbane, I'm looking back to some colder weather outfits with one of my winter knits. Sharing 30 ways I've worn this beautiful bright cobalt knit I thrifted, over the years it's been in my wardrobe. It's the first jumper I've hit 30 wears on too!

30 Ways To Wear: Thin Cobalt Marl Knit Jumper

Cost Per Wear

I purchased this bright cobalt marl knit at the opshop back in April 2015! At the time, I'd had a wardrobe detox session with a personal stylist after having my eldest boy and she pointed out my wardrobe could use some more basic block colour pieces. This fit the bill nicely and it was just $7 at Vinnies! At 30 wears so far, that's 23 cents a wear. And because it was a preloved thrift find, I'm sure it was worn more by the previous purchaser as well, lowering the environmental impact even further.

Valleygirl is a fast fashion brand in Australia, and not a store I shop at. But this knit has gone the distance over the years and is such a good opshop find. I've only worn it 30 times in the 9 years I've had it because the weather in Brisbane means I don't often need a cosy winter knit! I do enjoy wearing it when the weather cools though.

Knit Jumper Knotted Over a Dress

layering a cobalt marl knit over dresses 4 ways to wear awayfromtheblue

This is quite a thin and stretchy knit (it's synthetic) so it knots up beautifully to be worn over a printed dress. It adds a little more warmth to allow me to wear summer spaghetti strap dresses like these four on cooler days. I really like the way this jumper looks knotted over a dress.

Cobalt Knit With Skirts

5 ways to wear cobalt marl knit jumper and skirts awayfromtheblue

This marl knit is so versatile! While I've worn it over dresses in the first set of photos I also really like it worn with skirts for a similar look. It works just as well with a pencil skirt in an office outfit as it does with a maxi skirt for casual weekend or working from home wear.

Cobalt Jumper With Red

This jumper being a block colour works so well with other pieces and colours in my wardrobe. I've worn this jumper with a lot of different colours and shades. Red and blue is always a bright and colourful combination, and any shades work well. Like the deeper burgundy jeans in the middle, or the brighter red skirt and jeans in the first and last outfits.

Cobalt Knit Jumper With Green

green and cobalt marl knit jumper outfit ideas awayfromblue

"Blue and green should never be seen" is not a rule I follow! I like this bright cobalt with different shades of green, just as it works with different shades of red in the outfits above. Although I don't find green as easy to wear as some other colours in my wardrobe, pairing it with blue is always a winning combination for me.

Cobalt Knit With Pink

blue marl cobalt knit with pink 4 ways to wear | awayfromblue

Blue and pink, again, as seen above with the other colours, is something that works in any shade combination! From pastel pink to brighter neon pinks, and even a darker magenta like that little Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag in the third outfit there. I really like the combination of blue and pink. No matter how much or how little pink is worn with this knit, it's always a good pairing.

Cobalt Knit Jumper With Purple

purple pink and cobalt blue knit jumper outfit ideas | awayfromtheblue

Blue and purple is another frequent go-to combination for me. And while sometimes I just stick with the two colours together like I have in that third outfit there, I often add in a little extra and make one of my most worn trios with blue, purple and a touch of pink. Cobalt never looks out of place with purple or pink.

Blue Knit and Black

3 ways to wear black and cobalt marl knit jumper outfits | awayfromblue

Of course if you're not sure what to pair a bright knitted jumper with, any colour works with black! This cobalt knit really pops when worn with neutrals like black, and the bold block colour means it looks good with printed black pieces, like each of the three printed bottoms in these outfits.

Cobalt Marl Knit With Stripes

4 ways to wear cobalt knit jumper with stripes | awayfromtheblue

While I've shown you a few ways to wear this jumper with prints in the other images, I really wanted to call this out as a separate combination with this knit jumper and stripes. With the marl knit having an almost striped appearance I worried at first pairing it with more stripes would be too much, but as you can see from each of these 4 outfits, it really works!

30 Ways To Wear Portmans Pink Leopard Print Jeans

In a very overdue 30 ways to wear post, I'm finally sharing 30 ways to wear these awesome pink leopard print skinny jeans. I got them from my mum back in 2012. It's taken much too long for them to hit the 30 wear figure, but they do make a bit of a statement so aren't something I reach for everyday. They are really fun to wear though.

30 Ways To Wear: Pink Leopard Print Jeans

Cost Per Wear

Unfortunately as mum got me these as a gift I'm not sure how much they were to calculate cost per wear! However given that they have stuck around in my wardrobe for 12 years and reached 30 wears, I think they were a good buy! Here are the 30 ways I've worn them so far:

Pink Leopard Print Jeans With Grey

Of course if you've got a brightly coloured printed piece in your outfit, it makes sense to wear neutral colours with it. Grey tops and cardigans are a great neutral with these bold jeans.

Black With Pink Leopard Print Jeans

Black is another go-to neutral for me, and one that again works well with the pink leopard print. it really lets the jeans stand out and be the star of the outfit when they are paired with a black top, tee or jacket.

Graphic Tees and Printed Jeans

I don't just stick with neutrals with these jeans! Sometimes I've tried to introduce another print, as you can see with the scarf in the set of outfits above, and these 4 graphic tops outfits. Despite the busy and bright leopard print of the jeans, I think the neutral backgrounds of these tops make the prints work together.

Pink Leopard Pink Jeans With More Pink

Sometimes if I'm wearing a piece in my outfit with one colour, I'll try match that with my accessories, as I have done here in each of the 6 outfits. I've paired pink bags and even a pink printed scarf with these jeans. Any shade of pink works, from the bold neon pinks on the end to the lighter paler rose in the third outfit, and the deeper magenta bag in the 5th.

Pink Leopard Print Jeans With Blue

Pink and blue is a colour combination I really enjoy wearing, so I've worn a lot of different shades of blue with these pink leopard print jeans! From lighter pastel blues to true navy, and even trying a little double denim with the blue denim jacket, I've not found a shade of blue that doesn't look great with these pink jeans.

Pink Leopard Print Jeans With Purple

You can see I love wearing that little purple bag with these pink jeans! Pink and purple is another winning colour combination from me, especially when I introduce a third colour and a blue piece into my outfit as well.

30 Ways To Wear: Atmos&Here Slouchy Wine Purple V-Neck Tee

Continuing on with trying to make my #30wears posts a regular monthly feature this year. This month, I'm showing 30 different ways I've worn this beautiful deep purple wine v-neck tee from Atmos&Here.

30 Ways To Wear: Wine Purple V-Neck Tee

30 ways to wear atmos and here rolled sleeve slouchy deep purple wine tee awayfromtheblue

Cost Per Wear

I bought this tee back in October 2013, on sale for just $14.47, as I had an extra discount code. It's not the only slouchy soft rolled sleeve v-neck tee I have bought from Atmos&Here. I used to have a grey, black, and a striped one. This one, however, is the only one that I've manged to hit 30 wears with.

The super soft modal also has spandex in it which means that over the years, its stopped being so stretchy and more baggy as the spandex has worn away. Luckily this one seemed to hold its shape better than the others and I hit 31 wears with it, but it's been a lesson for me that if I want my clothes to last, pay attention to the fabric composition. I have a lot more cotton tees in my wardrobe now! Even if the extra stetch in this tee was helpful to see me through 2 pregnancies and very helpful in the breastfeeding days, I prefer just plain cotton tees now.

At 31 wears, it's now definitely too worn and stretched out to continue wearing, but still super soft, so will be a good pyjama top! It has had a low 47 cents cost per wear, and it's taught me a valuable lesson on paying attention to the fabric content of the things I buy, even if it's not something I'll be able to get a lot more wear from in future.

I don't have a lot of this deep wine-purple coloured burgundy in my wardrobe, so it's been interesting looking back to see how I have worn this. I like it a lot with black and other darker colours, but it has been worn with some brighter pairings too. Here are 30 different ways I've worn it over the 10 years it's been in my wardrobe.

Wine V-Neck Tee With Denim

5 ways to wear wine purple tee with denim awayfromtheblue

I don't think there can be a more classic combo than a v-neck tee and denim! Sometimes I'll pair this tee with jeans, or shorts, even denim skirts. With the plain block colour, printed jeans work too. As do sequins, wearing my awesome Haus of Queenie custom kimono in the middle there.

Deep Purple Tee With Floral Prints

4 floral outfit ideas with deep purple wine tee awayfromblue

I like throwing a cover up or duster on top of a denim and tee outfit, as I have here in these 4 outfits. A floral cover up is a great way to add more colour and print to a plain tee like this wine one.

Wine V-Neck Tee With Stripes

deep purple atmos here tee with stripes awayfromblue

As I've shown above I'm partial to florals, but stripes and even other prints like leopard work well against the plain dark background of this tee too!

Deep Purple Tee With Skirts

5 ways to wear wine purple tee with skirts awayfromblue

You saw the denim skirt with this wine tee above but it works with all other kinds of skirts, like a maxi skirt or with a pencil skirt for the office. I loved that it still fit over the bump with my maternity pencil skirt at the bottom there!

Wine Tee With Blue

wine tee with blue 3 outfits awayfromtheblue

Blue is my favourite colour and I'll wear it with everything. While this dark tee is a bit more burgundy than plain purple, living up to the 'wine' colour label well, I do still like wearing it with shades of blue just as I would with a purely purple tee. Different shades of blue in a scarf work well, and even a brighter turquoise like you can see in the middle of these outfits is good with the tee.

Deep Purple Tee With Grey

3 grey and wine skirt and tee outfit ideas awayfromtheblue

Of course if you're not sure what colour to wear with something, neutrals always work! This tee works well with grey skirts. I really like it with the grey skirt in the first and last outfits, so good I wore it twice! And it was nice to knot it over the grey tie-dye maxi dress in the middle there for something a little different.

Wine Tee With Other Shades Of Red

4 outfit ideas deep burgundy tee with other shades of red awayfromblue

I have tried now and then to be a little more adventurous with this tee. Pairing it with much brighter shades of red, and other lighter shades of burgundy. I've really liked the combination, done on a small scale with a little crossbody bag, or on a larger scale with a printed cover up or that striped maxi skirt in the third outfit.

Deep Purple Tee With Brights

wearing wine purple tee with orange and yellow awayfromtheblue

One unexpected combination I really ended up liking with this tee was adding a brighter piece against the deep wine purple shade. I really liked the wine with the rust orange skirts, and the little yellow bag and yellow print on the shorts in the second outfit there. It was a good way to lighten up this tee and I'm glad I gave the orange and burgundy colour scheme a try!

30 Ways To Wear: Navy Tile Print Boho Dress From Jeanswest

I purchased this dress in 2014 and it quickly became a favourite, so I'm surprised it's taken me 10 years to hit 31 wears with it! It is a super cute dress, and certainly should have hit 30 wears sooner! It's good to finally get to that goal and put this post together for it.

30 Ways to Wear: Jeanswest Boho Navy Tile Print Dress

Cost Per Wear

I bought this dress back in the pre-Christmas sales at the end of 2014. It was an impulse buy from Jeanswest. Sadly I didn't note down all my purchases back then, so while I know it was on sale and had an extra 40% off, I'm not sure how much I paid for it to calculate cost of wear. I still think I got my money's worth from this dress though! I got 31 wears from it over the years and it still looks good as new.

I love the blue tile print, the relaxed style and the peasant top with the tassels and the cute crochet detail. With blue being my favourite colour and something that works so well in my wardrobe, I've worn this dress in quite a few different ways over the years. Even if there were some years it didn't get worn at all as it wasn't the best dress for breastfeeding in!

While tying the tassels on the top or leaving them untied alters the neckline of the dress to change the look slightly, there are a few other things I've worn this dress with to make it a little different each time. Here are 30 of the different ways I've worn it:

Belting A Printed Dress

The easiest way to change up any dress, especially one with a defined elasticated dress like this one, is to belt it! I used this trick in pregnancy as you can see in the middle there to hold the dress in place over the baby bump.

Printed Dress With Boots

Tall boots work well with this above the knee dress, but ankle boots are definitely my favourite with the dress! The tassels and boho tile print make ankle boots something I frequently reach for when I'm wearing this dress, and makes it work into spring and autumn.

Boho Dress With Sneakers Outfits

Of course you can easily dress this down with a pair of sneakers too! While the boots above are a favourite pairing, I wear a lot of Converse with this dress, and I haven't found a pair of sneakers yet that don't work with it to create a casual outfit.

Layered Printed Dress Outfits

This dress has 3/4 sleeves but it is a light viscose so it needs a little extra layering in cooler weather. A denim jacket is an easy choice with a printed dress for spring or autumn. Another layering formula I've tried is making this dress more formal for the office by adding a blazer.

Boho Summer Dress In Winter

This is a lovely navy print dress and despite the longer sleeves, works so well in summer with the light viscose fabric. I find that it layers nicely in winter as well though! Adding a slip underneath, a cosy leather jacket, fleece lined tights or tall boots, even a scarf, and it works well for the milder snow-free Brisbane winters.

Navy Tile Print Dress With Pops Of Colour

I am a big fan of adding extra colour to an outfit with accessories, and this printed dress is no exception! In this set of photos, and in others in the post, you'll see I love a bright bag against the navy print. Anything works! From greens to oranges, or even a pink and purple necklace like in the second photo.

Blue Bag And Navy Printed Dress Outfits

Blue is my favourite colour so if I'm already wearing one shade of blue I'll happily reach for another to compliment it! With this navy dress, I've worn a few blue bags over the years. Anything from a storm blue to a periwinkle blue, and of course navy, blue bags look great with the navy print.

Red Bags With Navy Tile Print Dress

A red bag is a fin pop of colour and as you can see from these 3 red bag outfits here they really make a statement with the navy tile print! Just like the other colour combinations I've shared above, there's something about navy and red that always looks good.

Navy Printed Dress With Pink Bags

Saving the best for last - blue and pink! Just like the other accessory combinations I've shared, with the navy print, any shade of pink from a light pastel to a bold fuchsia works nicely with this dress. While I do love a little crossbody bag with this simple summer dress, a big bold pink bag like the Balenciaga ones in the first and last photos looks good too.

30 Ways To Wear: Atmos&Here Green Tropical Floral Print Tee Dress

I'm thrilled I reached 30 wears with this cute tropical floral print shift dress. Tee dresses are such a staple for me in my wardrobe, and this one always gets compliments. It's such a lovely print!

30 Ways To Wear: Tropical Floral Print Tee Dress

This is a fun dress, and with all the different colours, from the green background to the colourful tropical floral print, it's really easy to find pieces to wear it with in my wardrobe. It has the added benefit of being a nice light tee dress, perfect for spring, autumn and summer in Brisbane, it's one of those pieces I find myself reaching for fairly often. I have layered it up a little for cooler weather too, but the warmer weather is definitely when this gets worn the most.

I like the grey contrast sleeves - it has a grey panel on the back too, which makes it really easy to wear as you just focus on pairing things with the fun bright print and the rest is a muted neutral.

Cost Per Wear

While I have reached 30 wears on this dress, it's not quite at a dollar per wear goal so many people aim for. I bought it online from The Iconic back in September 2014, and with a discount code and it being on sale I snapped it up for $39.98. They had the same print in a shirt and I deliberated between the dress and tee, rationalising the dress was the better buy as I could wear it as a top too, which I have done a few times. So versatile, and it's currently at $1.33 a wear, with a lot of life left in it and a permanent place in my wardrobe. It may have gotten very little wear in the breastfeeding years, but I've certainly made up for that now with how often I reach for it.

Here are the 30 different ways I've worn this dress so far:

Floral Dress with Matching Colourful Handbags

Such an easy way to wear a colourful handbag with a bright dress - just pick a bag that is a similar colour to one of the colours in the print! Even if (like the burgundy crossbody bag in the middle) it's not an exact shade match.

Floral Print Dress With Blue Bags

Blue is my favourite colour and I have a lot of blue handbags! When I'm not sure what colour to wear with something, any shade of blue is an easy go-to.

Green Floral Print Dress With Pink Accessories

Pink and green is not a colour combination I wear a lot, but it's fun to try now and then. From a very subtle look with the blush pink sandals, or something a little bolder with the pink crossbody bag, pink accessories look great with this green printed dress.

Green Shift Dress Worn With Yellow

This is another example of matching something colourful to the colour in the print of the dress - the mustard cardigan and scarf, and little yellow crossbody bag look so good with the yellow in the floral print.

Floral Shift Dress Layered To Wear As A Top

I am so glad I bought the dress rather than the tee, as this dress can be worn as a tee so easily! I really like tucking it into skirts as it's a bit bulky trying to tuck it into shorts. It makes this shift dress office suitable if you tuck it into a pencil skirt, especially if you throw a blazer on top.

Layering A Printed Shift Dress

It's not just skirts you can layer this dress with - in the cooler weather I like cardigans, blazers, and of course the ever classic leather jacket to add some warmth to the short sleeved shift dress.

Wearing a Floral Shift Dress With Sneakers

Dresses and sneakers are a fashion staple and something I wear a lot of with my knee injury. I feel I default to sneakers a lot - and luckily this dress looks great with every style I have tried!

Floral Dress and Ankle Boots

Spring means the dresses, bare legs and ankle boots outfit combination is often on repeat! While I don't have a large collection of ankle boots, the different colours of the ones I do have all work well as neutrals with this colourful dress.

30 Ways To Wear a Navy Floral Print Duster

If you're a regular reader of my blog, you'll recognise this floral duster as one I frequently wear. Unsurprisingly I've reached over 30 wears with it, so I thought it would be a good time to finally feature it in its own 30 ways to wear post.

30 Ways to Wear: Navy Floral Print Duster

30 ways to wear a navy tropical floral print duster from jeanswest | awayfromblue

This duster goes with everything! There are so many bright colours in the tropical floral print that I'm never really struggling with what to wear with it. It was hard narrowing it down to just 30 outfits to share in this post! I love cover ups in summer, for sun protection and also to help with the adjustment that happens when you go outside from bright warm sun into cooler airconditioned indoor environments. I've worn this one a lot in the other seasons too, it's so versatile with jeans as well as shorts.

Cost Per Wear

I bought this Melanie duster in the Jeanswest buy one, get one free sale back in January 2020. Originally $80, it was reduced to $39.99 and I got a $30 tee for free as well. So I struggle a little with knowing how to price it! I bought it with a gift card also.

If I should split the cost across the tee I got, it comes down to just $20. And at 32 wears so far, that works out to 62 cents a wear. (On the other hand, it's $1.24 per wear if you count the purchase price and exclude the tee I got free in the deal). And with owning it for 3 years, it's averaging around 10 wears a year, or almost once a month, which fits in with how often I feel I reach for this duster, which is a lot!

I'll wear it with anything, dresses, skirts, jeans, shorts...so I'm focusing on some different colour combinations in the outfits I've worn it in. Here are the 30 of my favourite ways I've worn it so far. It's definitely a keeper in my wardrobe.

Navy Printed Duster With Blue

The most obvious pairing for me, as blue is my favourite colour, is to wear this navy printed duster with more blue pieces! As you can see in each of these outfits, anything from turquoise to chambray or even baby blue works well with the navy background of this duster.

Floral Print Duster Over Neutral Outfits

With the bright tropical floral print, this duster has so many colour combinations you could wear to match with it. You can also keep it simple and stick with a neutral outfit underneath, to let the colours and print really shine. Sometimes I'll add a bright accessory too, like a necklace or bag, as you can never have too much colour!

Navy Floral Duster With Orange

There isn't any orange in this floral print duster, but I do really like navy and orange together, so I gave the combination a go with an orange top I love. As you can see, I liked it so much I repeated it with other orange pieces in my wardrobe!

Floral Print Duster With Yellow

Another citrus bright with this duster! Although mustard is my favourite shade of yellow, other shades pair so nicely with it, even when not an exact match to the shades of yellow in the floral print. Not everything has to match exactly.

Navy Printed Duster With Red

With a few red flowers in the print, wearing some red with this duster is a nice bit of matchy-matchy. As with the other colours above, I like different shades of red with this, from a bright almost coral red tee, or a burgundy tee or jeans.

Floral Print Duster With Pink

If you look closely, there are a few pink flowers in this print, so as with the red above, it's a good excuse to try all the different shades of pink with this duster. I have a fondness for magenta pink, but I like the non-matching lighter pink shades too.

Navy Floral Duster With Purple

Purple and blue is a colour combination I like. Although there are a lot of other colours in this duster, like red, that I wouldn't pair with purple normally, I have enjoyed wearing different shades of purple with this duster. From the deep purple jeans, to the deep wine purple or even the lilac tee, it's an unexpected combination I enjoy wearing.

Navy Duster With Green

Just like with the purple above, there isn't any green in this floral print. But I like navy and green together, and I've found with the navy background of this duster it works so nicely with any shades of green. Those olive shorts I really like wearing together with this duster!
